Review: The Lost Saint by Bree Despain

Title: The Lost Saint (The Dark Divine #2)
Author: Bree Despain
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Pages: 404
Purchased

A family destroyed. A love threatened. An enemy returns.

Grace Divine made the ultimate sacrifice to cure Daniel Kalbi. She was infected with the werewolf curse while trying to save him, and lost her beloved brother in the process.

Desperate to find Jude, Grace befriends Talbot, a newcomer to town. But as the two grow closer, Grace's relationship with Daniel is put in danger - in more ways than one.

Unaware of the dark path she is walking, Grace begins to give into the wolf inside of her - not realizing that an enemy has returned and a deadly trap is about to be sprung.

Bree Despain delivers sizzling romance and thrilling action in the heart-pounding sequel to the The Dark Divine.

As you know, I reviews The Dark Divine (#1) earlier this week. Click here for that review. I suggest if you haven't read The Dark Divine you don't read this review. It may contain spoilers to the first book! Sorry!

The Lost Saint unfortunately disappointed me. Everything I liked about the first book disappeared.

Grace's family is ripped to shreds. Jude disappears. There's a dreaded love triangle. Daniel starts acting like an a-hole.

This just didn't live up to my expectations. Grace also become's more whiney and reckless. She doesn't quite think about what she's doing.

Grace's parents are very dysfunctional in The Lost Saint, unlike the Dark Divine. Grace's mom seems to be exhibiting some type of PTSD or Bipolar-like symptoms. Which seems very strange because her mother was very rational in the first book.

Also, Grace's dad becomes obsessive over finding the 'cure.' How bizarre, considering he cares so much about his home life.

Also, the romance is so blah in this book. It's non-existant, unlike the previous book which focused on intense love.

Talbott was someone I disliked through the whole book. I sort of predicted the ending when it came to him. And Daniel.

For all of these reasons...I don't think I'll be reading the final book, The Savage Grace. Even though I wanted to love this book...I just didn't. Hopefully I didn't ruin anyone's plans to read this book!

  1. Awe, I actually liked this book more than the first one! To me, it seemed like Grace started actually trying to do something, and that Grace's dad finally realized the extent of 'Lupe' ness! (Jude doesn't really disappear...something extremely spoilerish and awful happens about him, so I can't say it here!)

Oh, I predicted the ending about Talbot too. I wasn't very proud of it, but I still enjoyed this book. Terrific review, Eliza!

    1. I know Jude didn't disappear! I just didn't want to give anything away, you know? I did like that part of the ending though, because I wasn't expecting it. I liked him a lot more after the ending.

I can see what you are saying about Grace and her dad. They just came off so different than the first book...hm....have you read The Savage Grace? I'm pretty sure I'm not going to read it....but part of me wants to see what happens.
